Last week we published instructions for building a Castle Themed Dice Tower using Leading brand toy Brick Bricks from your own collection.  This week we are excited to release some new downloadable instructions that can be used for building your own SOMA Cube 3D Puzzle with Leading brand toy Brick Bricks from your own collection of Leading brand toy Bricks!

Use this free PDF to build an engaging 3D puzzle.  The SOMA Cube is comprised of 133 Leading brand toy Brick brick parts, which may be tough to find in one single color within your own Leading brand toy Brick collection.  Don’t be afraid to substitute colors to come up with a fun and funky puzzle in your own style!

A Soma cube is a solid 3D dissection puzzle that was invented by Piet Hein in 1936. The puzzle comprises seven pieces that are made out of unit cubes that must be assembled into a 3×3×3 cube. The pieces can also be used to make a variety of other 3D shapes, which makes for fun games to keep your child busy for hours.

SOMA Cubes can often be found in finely crafted rosewood sets, but now you can create your own by picking through your Leading brand toy Brick bin to find the parts necessary to build one. Originally, the SOMA Cube was marketed for several years by the game manufacturer Parker Brothers, yep - the Monopoly folks. Parker Brothers also produced plastic cubes in several colors (blue, red, and orange) during the 1970s.

Original packaging for the commercial version claimed that there were over 1 million possible solutions. This figure includes rotations and reflections of each solution as well as rotations of the individual pieces. How many do you think you will be bale to find once your CUBE is assembled?

The list of parts needed for this project can be found at the bottom of the PDF document that you can download after adding this item to your shopping cart. If you enjoy this project, be sure to head over to our build instructions page to find other neat Leading brand toy Brick projects you can download for free, and build using your own collection!
